This homemade green juice recipe offers a fresh and nutritious alternative to commercial “green juice” powders. The base of this delicious green juice is wheatgrass which offers a variety of nutrition benefits. Try experimenting with your own flavorings or enjoy pressed wheatgrass juice on its own.
Ingredients
2-3 large handfuls of fresh wheatgrass
1 fresh lemon, rinsed, peeled and with pith removed (see photo below)
1/3 c fresh mint leaves, rinsed and loosely packed
64 oz filtered water
honey, to taste (optional)
Directions
- Rinse the wheatgrass thoroughly using a strainer or salad spinner. You’ll want to ensure you’ve removed small particles including dirt and other debris. Next, placed cleaned wheatgrass into a large capacity blender
- Place your peeled lemon, mint leaves, honey (optional), and filtered water into the blender
- Blend on high speed manual setting for 2-3 minutes or until all ingredients have been fully incorporated and pureed
- Using a strainer and large bowl (with pouring spout/lip), strain the liquid from the solids. Tip: use a spatula or large spoon to press additional liquid from fiber solids.
- Pour liquid into quart-sized mason jars. Top jars with lids and store in fridge until ready to consume.
Tip: To peel a lemon: start by slicing-off both ends of the lemon. Next, carefully slice down the sides of the lemon by curving your knife against the lemon (removing most of the pith or “white stuff”).
Tips and Tricks
- When ready to consume your tasty green juice, serve over ice and/or additional water, as needed.
- Try pouring green juice into ice tray’s and freeze. The frozen cubes can be added to any smoothie, anytime, as needed. Great idea for adding more “greens” (i.e. antioxidants, flavonoids, chlorophyll).
