Curious how to make an iced matcha tea? Learn how to make iced matcha tea with this easy guide for beginners. This tutorial will help you achieve a tasty matcha drink that can be enjoyed throughout your day.
Try skipping the afternoon coffee and give matcha a try! Matcha offers beneficial phytonutrients to support your immune system. Matcha’s caffeine content is often lower when compared to coffee. For example, 1 cup of matcha tea has around 70 mg caffeine, whereas, 1 cup coffee has around 100+ mg. Also, if you tend to get jittery from coffee, matcha may be a good option since it tends to process slower in the body thanks to L-theanine; a type of amino acid.
I like matcha for its bright green color and earthy, umami taste. It’s perfect for an energy boost without the “jitters” you may get from energy drinks or coffee/espresso. It’s also a great option as a pre-workout beverage to energize your exercise.
What do I need to make iced matcha tea?
- Matcha Powder: I like Akira Organic Matcha from Matcha Konomi
- Small Bowl: I like to use a traditional matcha bowl to help with whisking powder and easy pouring
- Whisk: I’ve found that a traditional bamboo matcha whisk works best
- Optional Tools: Bamboo Spoon and Scoop (too assist with matcha powder measuring and stirring), Small metal strainer (to help minimize clumps)
Ingredients:
2 tsp Matcha Powder
1/2 c or 4 oz of hot water heated between 175-180 F
About 8-10 ice cubes
Optional: add milk of choice, sweeteners like honey or maple syrup, etc.
Instructions:
- Add matcha powder to bowl (option to whisk powder to prevent clumps)
- Add hot water to bowl
- Hold the bowl with one hand and with other use the bamboo whisk to make a fast “zig-zag” motion to froth the mixture. See photo below. Option to add sweeteners at this step.
- Add ice cubes to glass cup. Pour mixture over ice. Add milk of choice for a creamy iced matcha. Enjoy!
